Eintracht Frankfurt has secured its place in the Bundesliga with a 1-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach at the Veltins-Arena on Sunday afternoon. The match was played in front of a crowd of 25,000 and saw Eintracht secure their second consecutive victory in the league.
The match started off slowly but eventually picked up pace as both teams tried to gain control of the game. In the 37th minute, Eintracht midfielder Kevin Schwenig sent a long-range shot towards the far post which was saved by Gladbach goalkeeper Robert Bury.
In the 48th minute, Eintracht's forward Kevin Trapp got a chance to score but his shot was blocked by Gladbach defender Benjamin Hensel. However, just two minutes later, Eintracht midfielder Mario Gómez scored the only goal of the match when he slotted home from close range after being set up by Trapp.
Gömez's goal was not only important for Eintracht Frankfurt, but it also helped them maintain their lead at the top of the table. With seven games left to play, Eintracht now leads Bayern Munich by four points with a game in hand.
Eintracht Frankfurt manager Frank Rijkaard praised his team's performance and said that they were deserving of their win. "We had some good chances and we could have won this match earlier," he said.
Borussia Mönchengladbach manager Thomas Tuchel admitted that his team struggled to create any significant chances during the match. "We didn't create many clear-cut opportunities and we didn't find the back of the net," he said.
Despite the defeat, Gladbach will be looking to bounce back in their next match against RB Leipzig. Eintracht Frankfurt, on the other hand, will continue their search for a top-four finish in the Bundesliga.
