Borussia Dortmund have secured their place at the top of the Bundesliga table after defeating SC Freiburg 2-0 on Saturday. The victory was all the more impressive given that it came against a team that had previously beaten Dortmund in their opening fixture.
The game got off to a slow start, with both teams struggling to create any clear-cut chances. However, things began to pick up towards the end of the first half when Borussia Dortmund's Malen and Adeyemi combined to score a pair of goals in quick succession.
Malen opened the scoring in the 65th minute, curling a shot past the goalkeeper from outside the box. Just two minutes later, Adeyemi added a second, tapping home from close range after being set up by Malen.
Despite conceding two goals in just over an hour, SC Freiburg put up a good fight and created some decent opportunities. However, they were unable to find the back of the net, leaving them trailing at the interval.
Dortmund continued to dominate possession in the second half, but it wasn't until the 78th minute that they managed to extend their lead. A header from Jadon Sancho found the back of the net, completing a hat-trick for the Englishman who has been in excellent form this season.
SC Freiburg put up a brave fight, but ultimately fell short in their bid to secure a point. Despite losing, the German side can take heart from the performance of their players, particularly Adeyemi who scored his first goal for the club.
Overall, it was a strong display of football from Borussia Dortmund, who remain in control of the Bundesliga title race. With only three games remaining, they will be looking to consolidate their position at the top of the table and continue their unbeaten run.
